Entries in the search field can be individual words or phrases. Define phrases (words that must come in a particular sequence) by placing them within quotes. Searches ignore the distinction of upper and lower case.
By default, the search engine returns any slides that match any of the query words or phrases. You can define the behavior more precisely with additional markings. A plus sign before a word or phrase indicates that it must be part of the search match. A minus sign indicates that it must not be matched.
For example:
+"Owen's Valley" -fault
Requires that the phrase "Owen's Valley" be associated with the slide
but that the word "fault" not be associated.
You can initiate a search any time you are browsing the slide catalog. If you have browsed down below the top level of the catalog tree you can constrain your search query to apply only to the part of the catalog you are currently browsing. You apply this constraint by choosing the option below the search query field.
Searches are based on the text in the slide caption, any notes attached to the slide, the photographer's name, and index terms that were linked to the slide.
